Eastleigh Gardening Makeover
Service for Older People

Older People in Eastleigh can now
apply to have their garden transformed so it is easier for them to
maintain thanks to the launch of a new Eastleigh Borough Council
gardening project and loan scheme. Eastleigh Borough Council
has teamed up with Sparsholt College, South Coast Money Line and
regional charity, Southern Focus Trust to offer this valuable
service to the disabled and elderly people.
Over fifty people turned up to the
open day launch which took place at St Boniface Church Hall in
Chandlers Ford. Visitors were informed of how they can secure
a subsidised loan to cover the cost of the gardening work, as well
as what work could be done. They were then taken to the
nearby home of Mrs Buley, the first person to receive one of these
impressive makeovers, so they could see how simple changes like
raised flower beds and level paths and lawns can enable them to
enjoy their garden more.
On her new look garden Mrs Buley
said, "I'm really thrilled, it looks lovely - it's better than
winning the lottery! The work everyone has put in has been
fabulous and it is already proving to be labour saving. I
have recommended the service to all my friends."
Lynda Ryan, Head of Community
Support Services at Southern Focus Trust, said, "It was a relaxed
and informative day. We demonstrated how recommended simple
changes to their garden can make all the difference to their
lives. We are very proud of Mrs Buley's garden, as is she,
and we hope it will enable older people in the community to
continue to enjoy their gardens."
